Gynaecology
Dr. McMenamin provides a comprehensive gynaecological service including the assessment and management of a wide variety of benign gynaecological problems such as infertility, pelvic pain, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS, abnormal vaginal bleeding/discharge, endometriosis and intrauterine device removal/insertion.
On receipt of your GP’s referral, an appointment will be issued to meet with Dr McMenamin for a gynaecological assessment. At this visit a detailed history will be taken and a gynaecological examination will be performed. This usually includes a speculum examination to visualise the cervix and to take swabs/smear test/endometrial biopsy (lining of womb biopsy) as necessary, a pelvic examination to assess the uterus and ovaries and an internal ultrasound examination of the uterus and ovaries. This scan can help to identify any structural abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps or ovarian cysts and provides a means to assess a woman’s “ovarian reserve” or “egg count”. If additional blood tests are required, these will be arranged, including AMH assessment.
If you need a surgical procedure, Dr McMenamin will perform the surgery in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital.
